This comprehensive neurological care includes robust diagnostic tools and capabilities, advanced treatment and management protocols, and the latest rehabilitation and recovery services.

  • Brain Care: From concussions to brain cancer, our neurologic specialists care for a wide range of conditions that affect the brain. Our care ranges from prevention to acute intervention and long-term management for conditions. Our comprehensive care includes a full range of recovery services, from rehabilitation programs to brain injury support groups.
  • Epilepsy Care: Anti-seizure medications are the most common treatment approach and can help control the frequency and severity of epileptic seizures. When medical management is insufficient, doctors may suggest a surgical approach such as regulating the electrical activity of the brain through a small pacemaker device called a vagus nerve stimulator (VNS) or removing the area of the brain that is the source of the seizures.
  • Headache Care: Our care is focused on finding the source of headache pain and developing a long-term solution to alleviate pain. Doctors perform a thorough evaluation that includes a physical examination and diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, or MRI or CT scans, to determine the cause of headache pain. We provide diagnosis and treatment for chronic headaches, migraines, and cluster and tension headaches.
  • Multiple Sclerosis Care: Although there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, there are strategies to help change the course of the disease, treat flare-ups, manage symptoms and improve mobility such as medications, assistive devices, rehabilitation therapies and clinical trials.
  • Nerve Care: Nerve disorders can be caused by conditions such as tumors, illnesses, diseases or injuries, or exposure to cold, radiation or toxins. Neurologists, neuromuscular medicine specialists and other specialized clinicians utilize a variety of treatments to manage nerve conditions.
  • Parkinson's Care: Treatment plans often draw from a variety of therapies, including medications, injections of Botulinum toxin (Botox), evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, biofeedback, exercise and relaxation techniques, and surgical options.
  • Stroke Care: Our team delivers life-saving care through speed, expertise and technology for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and can perform the latest, minimally invasive treatment options such as angioplasty, embolizing agents (clotting medications), thrombolitic therapy, and minimally invasive surgery can be used to remove a clot, or repair arteries and veins.

TeleNeurology Program

We’re proud to announce progress in the care and treatment options for our community. We rolled out a new teleNeurology and teleStroke program in partnership with SOC Telemed.

SOC is a proven partner for hospitals like ours; the same platform we’re using to deliver acute care telemedicine in our hospital has also provided more than 1M virtual consultations to other hospitals around the country.

Our new emergency teleNeurology program covers all neurological emergencies occurring anywhere in the hospital, including acute stroke. While stroke triage may be the most familiar reason for emergency teleNeurology, our partnership with SOC grants access to neurologists with deep experience handling all varieties of neurologic issues, both urgent and non-urgent. Together with SOC, Melbourne Regional Medical Center is today better prepared than ever before to navigate complex neurological decisions and improve outcomes throughout the community.

TeleNeurology offers several important values to our health system and our patients:

Patients can stay close to home
With better care capabilities comes a reduction of patient transfers, which means you get the care you need, right here in your community. It also means shorter wait times in the ER.

Support for our local physicians
By supplementing our onsite neurology coverage during times like nights and weekends, we’re able to give our physicians a needed respite.

Speed to treatment
With a board-certified neurologist available to see stroke patients within minutes, eligible patients can receive treatment, such as a thrombolytic agents (Alteplase), faster.

Increased quality for neurology
SOC is the first and longest standing telemedicine organization ever to earn Joint Commission Accreditation. That means the teleNeurology programs we’ve built in partnership with SOC at Melbourne Regional Medical Center are comprehensively supported by evidence-based practices.

In short, our hospital is taking an important step in the development of stroke care in our region. Our partnership with SOC Telemed is an exciting development into the future of care for Melbourne Regional Medical Center patients, and a powerful tool to help us build the resilience and expertise we’ll need to meet the challenges of the coming decades.
